WE ARE CALLING ON YOU!

          MASTERS OF LANGUAGE ...

                                                         MAKERS OF MEANING...

                                                             TO FLAY THE WRITTEN WORD;

                                TO PEER INTO THE ABSURD;

TO HOLD A MIRROR TO YOUR READERS...

AND LAUGH IN THEIR FACES;

                    TO FIND THE COMICAL IN THE MORBID
            AND THE MORBID IN THE COMICAL;

TO CANNIBALISE THE NARRATIVE;

                                      TO X-RAY POETRY;

TO SHATTER LANGUAGE...

AND BUILD AN EFFIGY FROM WHAT'S LEFT.

Give us your breaking, broken things - your hearts, bones, bodies.

Your late night fragmented thoughts, your shards of glass. Things held together with tape, twine, sheer willpower.

What is deemed fragile? Who by? What conditions it as such?

If there’s glass, what’s behind it?

What does it obscure?

What is pressing at the back of it, trying to make its way through? If the façade gives way, what’s left?

CONTENT WARNINGS

At UNCANNY, we believe in the importance of content warnings (CWs) for protecting our editors and readers. Using your best judgement, should your piece include graphic and/or distressing themes we ask you to include a content warning either in the submission email or the top of the submitted document itself.

While we accept dark materials and works dedicated to lived experience and trauma, we reserve the right to determine what is gratuitous, damaging, or inflammatory. We will not tolerate any content of an offensive nature. If we receive such submissions your name will be listed, and the university will be notified.

We usually publish one (1) work per author.
